Access 110M+ users on the Base testnet by Coinbase with Infura
The Base testnet by Coinbase is growing at light-speed. Here’s how developers using Infura can get access.
The Base testnet by Coinbase is growing at light-speed. Here’s how developers using Infura can get access.
We're thrilled to be a node provider supporting Coinbase’s layer 2 (L2) network, Base. Launched on February 23rd, Base’s testnet private beta already has over 2,000 registrations on Infura.
Infura and Coinbase are aligned by a shared value of decentralization and a belief that Ethereum remains one of the most influential networks in web3. Infura’s goal is to onboard the next million users to Ethereum, while ensuring their web3 experiences are seamless, scalable and secure.
Here’s how you can access Base with Infura to maximize the value this new L2 brings to the web3 ecosystem.
What is Base?
Base is built by popular cryptocurrency platform, Coinbase. It is an Ethereum L2 network offering a secure, low-cost, and developer-friendly way to build dapps.
The Base network is powered by the OP Stack created by Optimism. The OP Stack is an open-source development stack that powers Optimism and is maintained by the Optimism Collective. It’s built as a bridge and is fully integrated with the Coinbase suite of products, users, and assets.
Coinbase chose to build the Base network with the OP Stack as it aims to make it easy for customers to use web3 products and for developers to build them. Base and Optimism are building an open ecosystem, where Coinbase can provide open access to their products, users, and assets for the broader crypto ecosystem to build from.
Developers using Base will benefit from Coinbase's seamless product integrations and fiat onramps to access the growing Coinbase ecosystem, which has 110 million verified users and $80 billion assets on its platform.
Infura provides API access to the Base network to ensure developers can tap into the vast potential of this new L2.
Unlock the next wave of web3 users with Infura and Base
Infura’s mission is to make building applications on web3 accessible to everyone. We do this by offering a comprehensive platform with tooling and a suite of APIs designed to help developers scale their applications effortlessly. The Infura platform provides 99.9% uptime and is 10x faster response times than self-hosted nodes.
Infura’s Base API provides developers with a streamlined solution for deploying their dapps using popular Ethereum developer tools such as Truffle, Remix, and MetaMask. Developers can enjoy a full EVM-compatible experience with cost savings similar to Optimism, while benefiting from the underlying security and decentralization of Ethereum.
Infura already supports Optimism, making it even easier for developers using Infura to access and build on Base.
Currently, Infura supports 13 other networks, including Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Palm, Filecoin, IPFS, NEAR, Aurora, StarkNet, ConsenSys zkEVM, and Celo. All Infura users, regardless of their subscription plan, have access to all supported networks.
Over the coming weeks, our engineering team will work with the Base team to add mainnet endpoints and provide more developer resources and customer support.

If you’re already signed up, below are the steps to access Base.
Get started building on Base
First, add the Base network to your Metamask wallet following these steps:
- Open your MetaMask account.
- Select the network menu by clicking the dropdown button at the top.
- Click the “Add a network” button, then “Add a network manually”
4. Then enter the following information for the Base Goerli testnet:
5. Finally, click “Save”.
Once the Base Goerli network is saved you’ll have access to the Base network as well as to the block explorer and faucet for test ETH. You can also use the Base Bridge that allows you to bridge ETH from Ethereum Goerli testnet to Base Goerli testnet and vice versa. To bridge to Base Goerli, go to the Base Bridge and connect your wallet. It’s easy to deposit and withdraw Eth on the Base bridge safely.
