Happy 5th birthday, Ethereum!

There has been tremendous growth to the Ethereum network over the past five years and it is now the most actively developed, most transacted upon blockchain network in the world. But five years ago today, when the genesis block was mined into existence and the network officially launched, few people outside of software engineering circles had heard of the Ethereum blockchain.

Now, as we work hard to keep up with unprecedented levels of network activity, we can’t help but reflect on how far the industry has come and how lucky we are to continue growing alongside hundreds of devoted and brilliant teams all over the world. Here’s a retrospective on the first five years of our ecosystem's quest to upgrade the Internet.

New Open-Source Tool for Testing Client API Conformance: eth2-comply

To support Ethereum 2.0 client teams working towards compatibility with the Ethereum 2.0 API specification, we are pleased to be open-sourcing an Apache 2.0-licensed tool for testing client API conformance: eth2-comply. Client teams can integrate it into their CI pipelines starting today.

If you want the chance to help shape our ETH 2 API, apply now and register your interest. If you have any feedback on your experience using our Eth2 API so far, we would really appreciate it if you could share it here. Your input will help us refine our Eth2 offering before making it more widely available.

New Developer Tutorial!

To build a decentralized application on Ethereum, you need to know how to send a transaction, sign it, and broadcast it to the network. Transactions enable you to transfer ether, deploy your own contracts, and interact with other smart contracts. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through how to confidently execute these actions, as well as some relevant libraries and commands to make your development workflow easier.

Infura Joins Maker Community as Light Feed Oracle Provider

To increase the security of the Maker Protocol as MakerDAO moves toward complete decentralization, Maker Governance recently reviewed and discussed Maker Improvement Proposals (MIPs) to add four “Light” Feeds to the existing Oracle group. We are proud to join the Maker community as a trusted oracle light feed provider to join an already robust group of stakeholders within the Maker Community, including the Maker Foundation, dYdX, 0x, TokenSets (formerly Set Protocol), Gnosis, Kyber, Etherscan, and Gitcoin.

Introducing the Deposit Launch Pad for Ethereum 2.0

Over the past few months, Codefi Activate and the Ethereum Foundation have been heads down to make it easier for users to stake and become a validator on Ethereum 2.0. The result of this effort is the Eth2 Launch Pad, an application designed to securely guide you through the process of generating your Eth2 key pairs and staking your 32 ETH into the official deposit contract. It’s time to get your testnet ETH ready!
